I must admit that old Tom Bombadil is one of my favourite characters and I was so disappointed when they cut him out of that appalling first animation film of Lord of the Rings and then again for the Lord of the Rings film trilogy. In many ways you could see him as the centre of the wheel around which the whole story revolves.
